Mozilla have added this to the latest version of Firefox, then, in a flash of inspiration, decided to turn it off by default. :facepalm:

To activate what, for most people, is common sense mode head over to your settings > privacy & security and check the relevant two boxes.

It doesn't look like there's a way to allow crypto mining on a per-site basis for those who have a favoured site where they're happy to take part.
